More than a decade ago, Noemi Avila visited an orphanage we supported called Tesoros Escondidos. What she experienced that day sparked a passion that continues to grow. Surrounded by children longing for connection, she felt a deeper calling—to offer them more than a moment of joy, but a lasting sense of family. Since that visit, Noemi and her dedicated team have expanded their outreach, building meaningful relationships with additional orphanages and creating a ripple effect of love and care for children in need.
Her vision is ambitious but deeply rooted in compassion and purpose. Noemi dreams of establishing orphanages in Mexicali, Puebla, and Morelia—safe, nurturing spaces where up to 1,000 children can receive the love, stability, and opportunities every child deserves. These are more than just shelters; they are homes where children can belong, grow, and thrive. Meet the Founders
Thirteen years ago, we embarked on our first visit to an orphanage — “Tesoros Escondidos” in Mexicali. What began as a small group with a simple mission to spend time with the orphans and bring them toys has grown into a powerful movement. Today, over 50 volunteers from the Coachella Valley join us annually to make a lasting impact. Our vision has evolved from a single visit to a year-round commitment, providing essentials, non-perishable goods, and other vital supplies that support the children for up to six months each year.

Orphanages in Mexicali face significant challenges, including overcrowding, insufficient funding, and reports of inadequate care. A 2023 report noted that the State Family Development Agency closed four orphanages in Baja California due to allegations of sexual abuse and mistreatment. Additionally, the International Community Foundation highlights a lack of oversight and accountability in Mexican orphanages, leading to poor care and abuse in some facilities. These conditions underscore the urgent need for support and reform to ensure the safety and well-being of orphaned children in the region.
